Pediatric Services
Routine Neonatal care
Newborn care consists of evaluation for the need of resuscitation, a complete physical exam, administration of prophylactic medications and vaccines, adequate feedings, safe sleep, hygiene of the newborn, and other important areas for baby wellbeing.
Immunization practices
It might be hard to imagine, but your child’s immune system started developing before they were even born. Your antibodies were passed to your baby through the placenta, and they continue to protect them in the first months of life, against the bacteria, viruses or allergens that you’ve already been exposed to. As their immune system develops, your baby will create their own antibodies. Mild childhood illnesses stimulate the immune system, triggering the creation of more antibodies that fight illnesses and prevent them in the future.
Dietary & Complimentary feeding practices
By 12 months, most children can eat the same types of foods as consumed by the rest of the family, while keeping in mind the need for nutrient-dense foods, including animal-sourced foods like meat, poultry, fish, eggs and dairy products. Avoid foods in a form that may cause choking, such as whole grapes or raw carrots.
Nebulisations
Nebulizers are useful in treating certain respiratory conditions. Doctors often use them for babies. They allow infants to take in medication while breathing as they normally would. When a baby breathes in the mist from a nebulizer, the medicine can go deep into their lungs where it can work to make breathing easier.
Lactational Counselling
Breastfeeding plays a crucial role in the health, growth and development of babies and has benefits for the mother too. Women may need some help to successfully feed their babies. They need support and reassurance as they learn this skill. This session focuses on the initiation of breastfeeding following birth and when and how to refer women who are experiencing difficulties.
Growth monitory and development assessment
In children, parameters used to measure growth are weight in kilograms, height in meters and head and chest circumferences. Assessment can be longitudinal where serial measurement of the same child is recorded over different periods of time or cross-sectional where recorded measurement is compared to that of his peers.
